Dreams and Dreamlessness is a collection of short stories. The stories written in the past 25 years by the two women writers in Assamese display an astounding variety of themes. From episodes of epics to Bollywood, from the unhinged, destitute women to lonesome urban home- maker, from the street to jail to the middles-class bed-room, the stories bring forth characters and situations that rattle the constructs readers tend to accept without a contest. Bold and entertaining, they compel a cogilation on man-woman relation and many other facets of urban milieu. Readers from every echelon of society would decipher that the vignettes delineated are so close to their everyday experience.
